Curriculum update

SCIENCE: 1 Timothy 4:4 says, “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving.”

God made the world filled with fabulous creatures big and small, fuzzy and scaly, sun-loving and late-night living. No matter where, when, or how, animals are great teachers on everything from caring for ourselves and our families to surviving even the worst conditions. Nature is tough, but it tells us how to hold on and come out stronger.

This week your child will be selecting an animal, researching it’s characteristics, and explaining how their animal was created from God’s own image.

For example: Bees. Did you know Bees are so cool? When a bee tells its fellow bees where to find nectar, the message needs to be correct. So the bee does a dance to tell other bees which direction to fly and exactly how far to go, yet bees in another country might not be able to understand the language of this particular bee. They are so smart. God created this animal in his image because God is smart! All of us are smart in one way or another too! And because we are smart, we are able to think about God and what He means to us. Because we can think about God, we are able to come to Him and believe in his son Jesus!

** Review Sheet will go home on Thursday, October 27

BIBLE: We have explored Abraham's life and learned that he was a true friend of God, however, we have learned that he didn't always make the right choices. We have worked hard in class reviewing the key events. This week we will wrap up the last story (#27 on review guide) and then review and test. The Test for Bible will be WEDNESDAY. Below is the review guide we have been using in class. This may give you an idea of how to help your child prepare for the test.

Bible Memory:  Our new memory is Psalm 23.  Since this is such a familiar passage, we have not spent much time on it at school. A copy of the Bible memory was sent home last week. Please review it with your child, Bible Memory is due Friday, October 28.

Upcoming chapel:

Mark your calendars for November 4 as your third grader will be leading the entire elementary in chapel. We meet from 10:00-10:30.

WRITING: Your child is an author! On Tuesday, our first pieces of writing will be published and we would like to celebrate. Please sign up to bring something for our celebration this Tuesday, October 18. www.SignUpGenius.com/go/30E084AA9AA23A6FD0-writing

These third graders did an excellent job asking, How can I be better at writing? I am very impressed with the first piece they took through the writing process. This week we will be using ‘audioboom.’ App. In this app, your child will record themselves reading their stories. Once it is saved, I will make a QR code and place their published reading on their locker! FUN STUFF!

READING: We have been using the book Because of Winn-Dixie to work on improving our comprehension. This week we will be working on envisioning what our characters are like on the outside, but also what kind of person they are on the inside. We will be stepping into our character’s shoes. Identifying how our characters might be feeling, and trying to remember when we had the same feeling.
