Last Curriculum Update of the year

Light up the world with Kindness-
Third graders will be continue to incorporating acts of kindness each day. This week will involve a little more production then the last. Check out the sign up genius and see if there is an item or time you can contribute. Thanks in advance for your help!

We will be wrapping up the life of Joseph this week. We are learning that he is a hero of faith because he was a “forgiving brother.” We will discuss how we can be forgiving to each other as well. A study guide will be coming home this week Tuesday. Our test will be next week Tuesday, Dec. 20th.

** No new memory verse!

Check out the linked play list for our Christmas program. I bet if you play it, your child can show you all the motions we have been learning! These songs are so powerful and fun to listen to during this Christmas season. Look forward to the big night on December 20th at Fair Haven Church, 7:00pm.

We are beginning our 3rd unit in math. In this unit your child will learn all about measurement. We are taking in a lot of new vocabulary about inches, feet, yards, miles, line segments, volume, cups, gallons…etc.

Math Homework- Due Friday- Measurement paper.
Keep practicing facts! Our homework will no longer include fact practice, we need you to practice using apps or flashcards at home so they can be segmented in the brain.

Word Work-Unit 11.

  • We are expanding our vocabularies during read aloud time with A Cricket in Times Square.
  • We will be sorting dge, and ge words.
  •  “Dear Parent” letter (optional) goes home Thursday.

·      Test on Friday, Dec. 16

Social Studies- (Mrs. Boekeloo)
Your third grader will be learning about the geography of Michigan this week.

Reading- We will continue to practice creating inferences in our reading during small groups. These third graders are making progress on their ability to read and answer questions about the text!

*** 300 Minute Reading logs can be returned after Christmas Break

Writing- You will be getting your 3rd graders essay back if you haven’t already. They did a nice job writing these pieces using Google Classroom on the Chromebooks. I enjoyed being able to give students immediate feedback through the comments and having them write back to me about how they were processing what I was asking them to do.

Now it is time to celebrate our hard work. We will celebrating our essays with another class this week. Finally, we will begin learning what it takes to write an informational piece. Students will brainstorm ideas they are experts at.
