Curriculum Update and Homework Log

So thankful for our Unity aide, Laura Bennink. We loved having her help out in our classroom this past semester! Blessing to Laura as she goes to Calvin to become a teacher! She will be great with kids!

We will wrap up our study on Joshua and review for our test. Our test is this week Wednesday, May 17. A review sheet went home on Friday for this test.

Joshua 1: 7-9 is our last verse of the year. It is due this week Friday, May 19.

We will continue subtracting and mix in addition with subtraction methods this week. We will also be in the computer lab taking our Delta Math screen. I’m excited to see these scores after pushing Math Facts in Quarter 3 and 4.

Reflex Math
I have 12 students still using reflex for fact fluency. Please ask your child if they achieved a green light at school or not. If not, have them continue to push for green lights at home. I am only giving 15 minutes of class time each day and for some, it takes 20-30 to get a green light. If your child does not get 3 green lights in a week, it jeopardizes our grant program.  Thanks!

Social Studies- Thanks for all your help with providing a visual aide during our Michigan Museum project! It will be a project to remember. Here is the link to the video of our classroom:

This week we are beginning our last unit in Social Studies. This unit is all about the people who moved to Michigan and the products that are made here.

Word Work

Reviewing with usage rules
Spelling homework (optional)
Spelling test is Friday

We will continue to study the meaning behind different poems this week. Shel Silverstein is turning out to be a favorite author in poetry as well as reading concrete poems!

We will begin writing a faith reflection related to the Bible lessons we have learned. This week we are brainstorming life lessons learned from Bible this year. Then, students will pick on story and stretch our the details. Last, students will take their story and relate the meaning to one of their own life stories! I’m looking forward to seeing these reflections surface as the week goes on!
