Week 17 Highlights

We spent time quieting our hearts and redirecting our minds to celebrate the coming of Christ this week through some advent devotions. Jesus said, "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."- Matthew 11:28. I hope this season you were able to find rest and celebrate the true meaning in this season.

Such a wonderful celebration Tuesday night! These kiddos did an amazing job!

Thank you so much for the birthday gift card to Hawthorne Boutique! I'm looking forward to browsing the store :)

Week 15 Highlights

This week was an exciting one for three reasons!

Our acts of kindness around Hudsonville Christian School. Everyone is looking forward to these this upcoming week.

Monday: We said Hello to five new people

Tuesday: We wrote words of inspiration on sticky notes and placed them on the bathroom mirrors around school.

Wednesday: We created cards with Bible verses on them to spread to preschool buddies, siblings, or friends who needed to be lifted up.

Thursday: We practiced saying "Thank you" each time someone showed kindness to us.

Friday: We created Kindness Snowflakes and placed them on the connector windows near Mrs. Keller's office.

Another exciting lesson from this past week was our trading day lesson. Students were invited to bring in old items from home that were under $5. They were able to experience what was SCARCE in their life as well as the OPPORTUNITY COST of the items that became their second choice.

The faith perspective in this lesson is that God has created us all to have gifts and talents. We get to use those to be a blessing to others! So if we traded a fur pelt back in the 1600's for beads, then our job in trade was to bring glory to God. Your child have so many gifts and we took time to praise God for them as we continue to less others with our gifts and talents.

Kenneth Kreagel and his book "Green Pants" was an awesome time on Thursday! He read his book to us and taught us all about the process of writing and illustrating. These children had so many good questions and enjoyed hearing from a published author!

Week 14 Highlights

One of the things that we go to each week is our prayer board! There have been many requests and we are seeing God's timing in our he answers them. This month I hope to help your child be encouraged to pray each day for someone or something new. They took home a prayer chain Friday that they can use each day leading up to Christmas. Challenge your child to pray by using the links!

week 12-13 Highlights

Our classroom received a grant from Meemic Insurance for $100 in books! We are excited to add to our book club collection.

Preschool buddies this month focused on what we are all thankful for. The entire preschool board was filled with suggtions from preschoolers and their buddies. Then we helped them create thankful turkey's to take home for Thanksgiving!

We were finally able to celebrate our personal narrative writing stories. Each third grader created a small moment story and recorded themselves reading it on a podcast site. These can be accessed if you scan the QR code on their locker at school.

Week Ten Highlights

Heading into this upcoming week, we will working on our nomad projects. This project starts Tuesday and kids will have a checklist of items to include in their scene and then they will have to describe three ways in which people lived during this time as they reflect on this life style during Bible times.

One of this week's highlight was the start of super switch. Each super switch group focuses on something a little different to give your third grade reader just what they need. The focuses vary from fluency, accuracy, and comprehension skills. As well as learning to spell using phonics skills.

Writing is another highlight from last week. We are starting to brainstorm ideas that we are experts in. I put up a new bulletin board to help students gain independence in their ability to write. There are examples on a 1-3 star rating for students to see and compare their writing too. We will be using these as we develop our chapters for our informational book.

Week Nine Highlights

A few different on the short week.

We study seasons and weather this year so I grabbed a fall picture of our class! You can really tell it is fall.

We experimented with balanced and unbalanced forces using different types of surfaces. Each pair of students investigated which surface required more weight: Rubber band, wax paper, wood, or sandpaper. We complied all our data, found an average, and discovered that Rubber bands created the most friction, therefore, required the most weight.

We put multiplication to use to find the area of a rectangle and square using real tiles from a interior design store.

Week Eight Highlights

8th grade buddies

Your third grader meets with their 8th grade buddy three times this year. This buddy was established in 1st grade and has followed your child through each grade level.  In the first visit, buddies draw out hands together and write out ways in which they can be praying for one another. Each buddy swaps hands and tapes it inside their locker as a reminder.
